It’s your business – your baby. You’ve spent time, energy, and money perfecting your website. Your website is now able to handle greater online traffic and support new customers. So, why aren’t you seeing any new visitors? Why would that happen?

One factor might be that you accidentally neglected to fill out your Google My Business (GMB) profile page. This missed opportunity will ultimately hurt your business, and it is one step that many businesses leave undone. I will talk more about all the other features from GMB in future articles, but for now, I want to discuss an overlooked and valuable feature called “products”.

What can Google My Business do for Your Business?

First, you might be wondering what GMB is all about and how it could have so much impact on your business. It just might be as important as your website.

When most people do a search for anything online it’s most likely going to be through Google. This means that when folks search for your business or product, the first thing that they will see is your GMB profile. We all know the old adage that says you never get a second chance to make a first impression. Make your first impact count.

Considering that there are almost 4.39 billion internet users, and the number of Google users worldwide is nearly four billion, GMB is not to be discounted. There are 246 million unique Google users in the US alone. Google usage statistics show that Google Photos has over one billion active users. With that many users, every business should be completing their GMB profile and posting product and service images on Google. There is no doubt that optimizing Google and GMB can create a successful marketing campaign and a winning strategy.

Establishing your GMB is extremely important because people will obviously decide if they wish to visit your website, call your business, message you, or look up directions for a visit based on how well you present yourself. If you neglect to take advantage of your GMB profile then only basic information about your business will be shown.

The best part is it’s free to create your Business Profile on Google. Yes, you can create your profile at no cost, and you can also manage your business from Google Search and Maps or from your Google Business Profile Manager to start reaching more customers.

Google My Business “Products”

Google My Business Products feature was introduced in October 2018 but has been overlooked by approximately 80% of businesses. Most people don’t know about it or know how to use it properly. The Google My Business Products feature, which is available in most verticals, is designed with small to medium businesses in mind. It allows you to showcase your products and services on your Google listing – for free. (Keep in mind products submitted in Product Editor must adhere to Google’s policies.)

Let’s get started

Do a Google search for “Google My Business”. You will need to sign up sign in to the Google business profile page to continue. Next, enter your business name in the search bar. Once you’ve logged into your business page, look on the left-hand side dock to see the selected titles (below).

Example –

Click on the “Products” title to access the “Add Product” section

Fill out all the sections

• Select a photo
• Product name
• Select a category
• Show price range (if what you’re posting has a price range)
• Product description (see more below)
• Add a call to action button

Photo selection options

• Add photos
• Banners (see example below – WordPress Web Design image)
• Services, such as photos or banners listing your service per each (add price range or leave blank)
• Offers
• Shop online offers
• Products

Add your description

Add a description into the “add products” section. That description will come up once someone clicks on your photo, banner, etc. In your Google listing make sure you’re using proper keywords in the description to engage the viewer, and fully explain what it is that you do.

Add a call to action button

The add a Call to Action buttons will give you options like:

• Order online
• Buy
• Learn More
• Get offer

Select which button pertains to your service or product. All Call to Action buttons can be linked directly to your website or sell page. It’s a great way to increase sales, interest, and leads for your business.

Your Google listing

Congratulations, You Did It!

Your Google listing will now show your products or services. When a visitor clicks on a product or service, it will expand to show each individual product or service that you’ve listed. When your call to action button is clicked it will take the viewer to your website, sell page, landing page, etc.

Congratulate yourself! You are now among the upper-tier businesses. Your competition most likely won’t even know your secret!
